Contest 98: When Titans Woot!
Here's something that may surprise you, if you just stepped out of a time machine from the Bronze Age and have no familiarity with contemporary culture: some of us here at Woot are current or recovering comic-book nerds. While our previous cartoon-themed challenge may have been the "lamest contest ever!", this time we're not actually asking you to draw anything. Your challenge:
Alter an existing comic-book cover so that it's named after and features a product we've sold on Woot.
As far as the name goes, you have a little leeway: for instance, your Roomba Discovery Sage comic can be called "Roomba," "Discovery," "Sage," or any combination of the three. The Cobra GPS 1000 DLX Handheld GPS Bundle we sold a couple of weeks ago can be a super-team called "The Cobra GPS Bundle." Today's Citizen Men's Eco-Drive Calibre Moon Phase Watch is crying out for a Watchmen adaptation, so if you're gonna do one of those, make it good. The point is, you don't have to use the entire official sale title.
And the product needn't be anthropomorphized into a caped crusader; maybe it's a monstrous robot villain, maybe it's a deep-sea submersible craft, or maybe the comic is about adventures on the planet Roomba. Just make sure the name reflects the product and the product shows up in the picture, and you'll be OK. Probably. Maybe.
Post your entry here by 11:59 PM CDT on Sunday, November 12, 2006. Prizes are $20/$50/$100 for 3rd/2nd/1st. The rules and criteria for winning: our panel of geniuses can and will make stuff up as it goes along. Use Photoshop, pen and ink, collage, MSPaint, scrimshaw carving, tattoos, ice sculpture, whatever, but it'll only be judged if it's visible in our forums as a jpg, gif, or png. Try to keep your maximum width to 450px. If you need a place to host your pictures, try www.imageshack.ws or www.photobucket.com. We have no connection to either, but they seem free and easy to use. And if you want us to be sure your entry was indeed your work, post links to your source images. The more sure we are that you did your own work, the more likely we are to consider it for a prize.
Past money winners: If you'd like to nominate any entries from this week's contest, email your selections (with links to the individual post) to Jason at jtoon@woot.com by noon CDT on Monday.
